Shortness of breath with activity or when lying down. Fatigue and weakness. Swelling in the legs, ankles and feet. Rapid or irregular heartbeat.
Most commonly, a patient may experience shortness of breath, fatigue, problems with the hearts rhythm called arrhythmias, and edemaor fluid buildupin the legs. Symptoms may be mild or severe and may not always be noticeable.
What are the congestive heart failure symptoms? Shortness of breath. Waking up short of breath at night. Chest pain. Heart palpitations. Fatigue when youre active. Swelling in your ankles, legs and abdomen. Weight gain. Need to urinate while resting at night.
Other commonly reported symptoms of CHF include chest pain, anorexia, and exertional fatigue. Anorexia is due to hepatic congestion, bowel edema, and reduced blood flow to splanchnic circulation. Some patients may present with a recumbent cough due to orthopnea.
Clinically, patients will present with signs and symptoms of chest discomfort, breathlessness, palpitations, and body swelling. This condition is evaluated using non-invasive techniques such as echocardiography, nuclear angiography, MRI, 64-slice CT, as well as invasive hemodynamic measurements.
The cardinal symptoms of heart failure are: dyspnoea (shortness of breath) (Fig. 2) orthopnoea (breathless when lying flat) paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnoea (PND) peripheral oedema fatigue and reduced effort tolerance.
The common symptoms of congestive heart failure include fatigue, dyspnoea, swollen ankles, and exercise intolerance, or symptoms that relate to the underlying cause.
