First, though, what is an endorsement? A CDL endorsement is an additional qualification truck drivers can earn and apply to their CDL license. Endorsements allow drivers to operate different kinds of vehicles and haul different types of freight. A tank vehicle endorsement allows Class A CDL holders to operate any vehicle with a temporary or permanent tanker trailer attached to it. Tanker trailers are usually loaded with liquid freight like water, milk, gas or chemicals, but they can also haul dry materials such as sand or grain. Most companies require drivers who apply for tanker hauling positions to have their tanker endorsement at the time of hire.
