all right so now uh with this section i want to look at an a common problem or something we have to overcome uh when weamp;#39;re looking at xps and aes and thatamp;#39;s surface charge so as you can imagine and this is a similar problem to what we see in something like sem is that um we have electrons uh these photoelectrons that weamp;#39;re trying to detect uh but if theyamp;#39;re not fully removed then we can have a charging effect or you know if these photoelectrons are removed we can end up with a positive charged surface as well and so insulating materials such as polymers and ceramics as we see up here can have a surface charging effect and just the schematics kind of shown here so weamp;#39;re removing these photoelectrons and that therefore that leaves a positive charge so if itamp;#39;s not able to um ground and uh redistribute the charge then weamp;#39;re going to deal with a positive charge and the repercussions of that is that we can get huge shifts in our peak lo
