You may be eligible for this procedure if you have a very small chest and tight skin. It involves: Making an incision along the bottom half of your areola, so its semi-attached. Removing breast tissue and performing liposuction.
Small to moderately-sized chests, particularly those with good elasticity, do very well with periareolar surgery. Larger-chested people usually require double incision, and people with moderately-sized chests but less elasticity in their skin may also do better with double incision.
Keyhole uses a semi-circular incision at the base of the areola, while peri-areolar uses a circular incision around the areola. These both create very good male contours with minimal scarring and good sensation.
Periareolar incision: recommended for people with a B or C cup-size and moderate chest skin elasticity. Double incision/bilateral mastectomy: recommended for people with a C cup-size and reduced skin elasticity or a D cup size.
Peri-areolar surgery is slightly more invasive than keyhole, but is a good choice if placement needs to be corrected. Patients with very little breast tissue may also choose have liposuction, which is minimally invasive but requires very little tissue and no skin sagging to be successful.
As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications associated with Periareolar. These may include infection, bleeding, changes in sensation, asymmetry, or scarring. Your surgeon will discuss these risks with you during your consultations and explain the steps taken to minimize them.
Healing times vary, but many patients can return to desk jobs and light work after two weeks. There should be no heavy lifting, regular lifting of your arms over your head or weight training for 6-8 weeks. Light physical activity, such as walking, is recommended.
The periareolar technique involves a donut shape of skin removal around the areola. This is performed by making the areola smaller (about 22 mm in diameter, which is similar to the areola size for cisgender men), and then marking an outer circle of skin which will be removed. The outermost layer of the skin is removed.
