Employers see crit- ical thinking, analysis, and problem solving as growing in importance in the coming years, although these have consistently been cited in pre- vious editions of the survey. Newly emerging this year are skills in self-management, such as active learning, resilience, stress tolerance, and flexibility.
How many jobs will be lost to ai by 2025? The World Economic Forum has estimated that artificial intelligence will replace some 85 million jobs by 2025.
But the most recent World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, presented a dj vu moment: An IMF report concluded that 40% of jobs around the world will be affected by AI. In advanced economies, that rises to 60% of jobs set to be affected by machine learning, with about half being negatively impacted.
Many studies have predicted the likelihood that jobs will be replaced by AI. Yet we know that in many cases AI is likely to complement human work. The IMF analysis captures both these forces. The findings are striking: almost 40 percent of global employment is exposed to AI.
The IMF noted that about 60% of jobs could be impacted by AI in high-income nations, and roughly half of these may benefit from AI integration to boost productivity. Comparatively, AI exposure was estimated to come in at 40% in emerging markets and at 26% in low-income countries, respectively.
The robot revolution will create 97 million new jobs. As the economy and job markets evolve, new roles will emerge across the care economy in technology fields (such as artificial intelligenceAI) and in content creation careers (such as social media management and content writing).
The top skills and skill groups which employers see as rising in prominence in the lead up to 2025 include groups such as critical thinking and analysis as well as problem-solving, and skills in self-management such as active learning, resilience, stress tolerance and flexibility.
Job growth will be more concentrated in high-skill jobs (for example, in healthcare or science, technology, engineering, and math [STEM] fields), while middle- and low-skill jobs (such as food service, production work, or office support roles) will decline.
