and the first thing we need to talk about is the difference between a font and a typeface theyamp;#39;re actually interchangeable terms nowadays now that the majority of things we do are digital but they did have different meanings when they were first invented nowadays when you say typeface or type family itamp;#39;s the name of a specific collection of related fonts like robato or Futura thatamp;#39;s a typeface or a font family when we say font it refers to a particular weight or width or style or variance of that type face so to put it in simple terms you might say helvetica is the typeface that Iamp;#39;ve selected and the font for this project is going to be helvetica regular nine points size so that is the typeface and the font

Essentially, a typeface is the set of design features that characterize a particular style of lettering. This may include the presence (or lack) of a serif; the relative height, spacing and width of the letters; and any other aesthetic embellishments, like expressive swashes or tiny counters.
The important difference between kerning and character spacing is the fact that letter spacing is agnostic to the text it spaces, while kerning is used in certain situations between certain pairs of characters as defined in the font. What is kerning? Kerning is the spacing between individual letters or characters. Unlike tracking, which adjusts the amount of space between the letters of an entire word in equal increments, kerning is focused on how type looks creating readable text thats visually pleasing.
The main difference between these two terms is that a typeface (or type family) is the name of a specific collection of related fonts. In comparison, font refers to a particular weight, width, and style within that typeface. To put it in simple terms, each variation of a typeface is a font.
Legibility describes how a typefaces glyphs can be correctly identified as characters and words, including how individual characters can be distinguished from one another. Legibility should not be confused with readability, although legibility does affect readability.
Without kerning, you run the risk of one word looking like two from a distance this can completely change the meaning. Having even spacing will make your logo design more slick and professional. KERNING, in short, is the distance between two letters in a word. KEMING is a term to describe what happens when you dont kern properly. Most often, two adjacent letters are placed so close to one another that they combine visually to form a third letter, sometimes making you sound like a click. Keming.
