Were looking at whats happening among the banks and asking is there going to be some tightening in credit conditions? If we didnt have this banking crisis, then this would have been a more hawkish result. How much will depend on how successful they are at ring fencing and limiting spread from the current situation? The Fed doesnt want to look as if its doing a U-turn quite yet. With inflation still running as hard as it is, the risk of a hard landing is higher now because the Fed isnt going to really know whats the appropriate policy to do. If the turn changes the wind from one side of the boat to the other, you will have tacked or jibed. It will be a TACK (also called coming about) if you turn the bow of the boat through the eye of the wind, and it will be a JIBE if you turn the stern through the eye of the wind.
Jibing, one of the other turning maneuvers is simply the opposite of a tack. Recall that during a tack, the bow of the boat passes through the wind. During a jibe, the stern of the boat passes through the wind. We teach tacking before jibing because tacking is a safer turn.
The Gybe. Like a tack, the gybe takes place when you turn a boat through the wind and take it from one tack (say port) to another (say starboard) - or vice versa. The difference is that in the case of a gybe (as opposed to a tack) we have turned the stern (back) of the boat through the wind.
An alternative way to identify which tack youre on and which easily helps you identify the tack other vessels are on, is if the sails are on the starboard side of the vessel, then the vessel is on a port tack, and if the sails are on the port side of the sailing boat, then the boat is on the a starboard tack.
A tack is a nautical term both for the lower, windward corner of a sail and, separately, for the windward side of a sailing craft (side from which the wind is coming while under waythe starboard or port tack.
Jibing, one of the other turning maneuvers is simply the opposite of a tack. Recall that during a tack, the bow of the boat passes through the wind. During a jibe, the stern of the boat passes through the wind. We teach tacking before jibing because tacking is a safer turn.
Before tacking make sure you are not tacking into bad air, and look for a relatively smooth spot to turn in. At Tacking lean in to heel the boat into the tack. Now is the time to create weather helm to help the boat steer itself up into the wind with minimum rudder.
The Helm declares that they are beginning to tack by saying, Hard-A-Lee. There are a couple variations on this command and if you want to say something else, its your boat, just make sure everyone on your boat understands what you are commanding.
A jib is a sail, a jibe is a way of changing direction. The captain jibes when the stern is turning through the wind and setting a zig-zag course something you will do a lot in racing, since the sails are always powering the boat in a jibe, its a faster way to turn.
