Since the Apollo missions, every space suit, including those worn by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon, has been made at ILC Dover's facility in Delaware. They won the contract for the Apollo space suit in 1965 and continued to build suits for the Space Shuttle and now the Space Station. Each suit is handmade over a couple of months with extensive testing for flexibility and durability. Climbing into the suit can be a challenge, as astronauts first have to put on a suit filled with tubes of liquid cooling water to help them stay cool during long missions.

Several layers of high-tech fibres serve as thermal insulation, hermetically sealed and high-strength layers maintain the internal pressure and prevent the suit from swelling in vacuum.
Like a tire, a space suit is essentially an inflated balloon that is restricted by some rubberized fabric, in this case, Neoprene-coated fibers. The restriction placed on the balloon portion of the suit supplies air pressure on the astronaut inside, like blowing up a balloon inside a cardboard tube.
90 seconds after exposure, youll die from asphyxiation. Its also very cold in space. Youll eventually freeze solid. Depending on where you are in space, this will take 12-26 hours, but if youre close to a star, youll be burnt to a crisp instead.
A fan moves the oxygen through the spacesuit and life support systems, and a water tank holds the cooling water that flows through the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment. Also attached to the back of the suit is a device called the Simplified Aid for Extravehicular Activity Rescue, or SAFER.
Space suits are pressurized garments that astronauts wear while in space. It is intended to shield them from potentially hazardous conditions encountered in space. They are typically constructed from nylon, spandex, other synthetic polymers and liquid cooling tubes.
A spacesuit protects astronauts from those extreme temperatures. Spacesuits also supply astronauts with oxygen to breathe while they are in the vacuum of space. They contain water to drink during spacewalks. They protect astronauts from being injured from impacts of small bits of space dust.
EVA space suits are pressured with pure oxygen to be more flexible. They cant run out of air thus.
The suits protect astronauts from getting too hot or cold. Spacesuits also give astronauts oxygen to breathe while they are working in space. The suits hold water to drink. They also keep astronauts from getting hurt by space dust.
Two brass zippers sandwich a rubber layer: zipper, rubber, zipper. When pressurized from the inside of the spacesuit, the rubber expands and create a seal between the two zippers.
Spacewalks let astronauts work outside their spacecraft while still in space. Astronauts can do science experiments on a spacewalk. Experiments can be placed on the outside of a spacecraft. This lets scientists learn how being in space affects different things.
