hello iamp;#39;m arlen Guyer and I was curious just how much file degradation occurs in JPEG files and in particular in multiple saves of a JPEG file so I have this photograph of folk singer Betty Smith and it was shot in raw and this and then I saved it as a tiff file and then save that as a JPEG file at photo shops quality level 11 which is one step down from the highest and mark that as file number one but then it closed that opened it again marked it with a to save that as number two closed it opened it again did number three and continue to do that for 15 generations so this is generation number one and I continued on for fifteen generations where I saved it as a level quality level 11 JPEG file and then closed it reopened it and made a mark on it and resaved it at the same quality level so Iamp;#39;d like to show you now a comparison of a 300% magnification of the 15th generation JPEG file and the original TIFF file so here you go on the top is the JPEG file which is generation

File size. The JPEGs lossy compression translates into files that are relatively small, with an average size of around 10MB. TIFFs, using a lossless form of compression, are much larger. In fact, some TIFFs can docHub up to 4GB in size.
The size limit for a standard TIFF image is 4 GB. A TIFF image larger than that will be saved in Esri software as a BigTIFF. In 2004, BigTIFF was founded which changed the offset value as a 64-bit integer (8 bytes) that extends the theoretical maximum file size to 18,000 PB (petabytes).
The default is 2**32 - 1, which is effectively infinity. That is, the entire image is one strip. Use of a single strip is not recommended. Choose RowsPerStrip such that each strip is about 8K bytes, even if the data is not compressed, since it makes buffering simpler for readers.
JPEGs smaller file size makes them much easier to send online and via email. Some email clients have restrictions on the size of an attached file, which makes sending TIFFs difficult especially because TIFFs can get up to about 4GB in size.
TIFF FILE FORMAT Unlike JPEG, TIFF files can have a bit depth of either 16-bits per channel or 8-bits per channel, and multiple layered images can be stored in a single TIFF file. TIFF files are an excellent option for archiving intermediate files which you may edit later, since it introduces no compression artifacts.
TIFF uses 32bit offsets to replicate color configurations of images. That means that file size has a limit of 4 gigabytes (4 GB). Many implementations use signed integers to support files of up to 2 gigabytes.
Turning off Antialiasing to Reduce TIFF Image Size Antialiasing adds extra pixels and information to create the effect of smoother lines, curves, and shapes. This adds more data to be stored, causing the file to be larger. You can turn this option off to see how much space you will save.
