Stack is a linear data structure that allows to insert or delete elements from one end i.e. from the top of the stack. It follows a particular order in which elements are inserted or deleted i.e. LIFO (Last in first out).
ANSWER Locate the beginning of the stack. If you use the C51 compiler, look for the ? Fill the stack area with a known value or string. Run your program and make sure you execute every line of code (or as much as makes sense). After your program runs a while, stop it and look at the stack area.
In practice, the size of stack memory depends on the computer implementation or programming language used. In general, the memory capacity of the stack is limited by the amount of physical memory available in the system, as well as by the stack size set by the operating system or programming language.
The amount of main stack can be calculated by adding the memory requirements of the startup code and each potential ISR routine, considering the various group priority levels. Determining the stack usage of applications - Arm arm.com static arm.com static
The stack is used to store local variables, pass parameters in function calls, store return addresses. A threads stack has a fixed size which is determined when the thread is created. That is the value that you are referring too.
A user stack is always allocated at least 1 memory page size and 32k of memory. A process needs one page of data for every instruction it executes.
The size of the helper thread stack is set with the STACKSIZE environment variable. Finding the best stack size might have to be determined by trial and error. If the stack size is too small for a thread to run it may cause silent data corruption in neighboring threads, or segmentation faults.
A stack frame is the portion of the stack that is used by a single procedure. In either case, the stack frame size is best defined as the difference between the callers stack pointer and the callees. The following diagrams show the storage maps of typical stack frames for 32-bit and 64-bit environments.
