The LEN formula in Excel returns the number of characters in a given cell. For example, if cell A1 contains the text Hello World, the formula =LEN(A1) would return 11, as there are 11 characters in the text Hello World.
Change the column width or row height in Excel Select a row or a range of rows. On the Home tab, select Format Row Width (or Row Height). Type the row width and select OK.
What are Excel string functions? String functions are part of the Excel program you can use to alter, locate or measure strings. In Excel, strings are blocks of text that appear within the spreadsheet. These can include names of people, products, email addresses, names of cities and numbers.
The MATCH function searches for a specified item in a range of cells, and then returns the relative position of that item in the range. For example, if the range A1:A3 contains the values 5, 25, and 38, then the formula =MATCH(25,A1:A3,0) returns the number 2, because 25 is the second item in the range.
To use the function, enter =LEN(cell) in the formula bar and press Enter. In these examples, cell is the cell you want to count, such as B1. To count the characters in more than one cell, enter the formula, and then copy and paste the formula to other cells.
Changing Axis Tick Marks Right-click on the axis whose tick marks you want to change. Choose Format Axis from the Context menu. Make sure the Scale tab is selected. Change the value to the right of Major Unit to indicate the multiple at which the major tick marks should appear.
Select the column or columns that you want to change. Go to Home Cells Format. Under Cell Size, select AutoFit Column Width. Note: To quickly autofit all columns on the worksheet, select Select All, and then double-click any boundary between two column headings.
