Like JPEGs, TIFFs are a raster graphic file, but this format uses lossless compression to retain image data. This means that TIFF files are generally large. They tend to take up a lot of drive space and can be impossible to send via email.
LZW (Lempel-Ziv-Welch) and ZIP (Deflate) compression are two commonly used lossless compression methods for color TIFF images. A lossless compression method compresses the image data while still keeping all the original image data intact with no loss of quality.
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) files are common in publishing, photo editing, and graphic design.
Because of their large size, TIFF files usually arent used for everyday marketing content. While a TIFF file might be the original creative file, it will likely be converted to another format to be used in slide decks, websites, and other marketing materials. Avoid TIFF files for: Web graphics.
Due to its lossless compression, TIFF files tend to be larger in size compared to other formats like JPEG. This can make them less suitable for web and online sharing, where smaller file sizes are preferred for faster loading times.
For the best print quality in Photoshop, we recommend using the following TIFF options: set the compression to LZW or ZIP to reduce file size without losing quality, choose the correct color profile (e.g., docHub RGB ), and ensure the resolution is set to 300 DPI, which is ideal for print output.
TIFF files store much more image data than their JPEG counterparts. This makes them a favorite with photographers due to their stunning image quality.
Disadvantages of TIFF files. They can take up valuable space on your drive. Their size makes them difficult to share or send to contacts or clients. Their high quality makes them a poor choice for website design, since detailed images can slow a websites loading speed.
