While there is no hard and fast deadline, the probate court estimates that it takes about six months to a year to settle an estate.
You must obtain the form used by the probate court in the county where the deceased was a resident. You can obtain it in person or by accessing your court's self-help center online and downloading the form there. Follow the instructions on the form to complete it.
An affidavit of heirship must be filed with the real property records in the county where the land is located. Call the county clerk and ask how much their filing fees are. The filing fees vary from county to county.
