in my opinion theres nothing more critical to a successful 3d print than a good first layer the success of your first layer can be the difference between a print looking like this or like this theres a lot of different settings you can tweak to dial it in so in this 3d printing 101 were going to discuss how you too can get the perfect first layer lets get started [Music] welcome back to 3d printing 101 here on makers muse so before we begin Im going to assume that you have leveled your print bed and set the correct nozzle height as accurately as you can every 3d printer does this slightly differently some machines manually level with thumbscrews while others use a probe to automatically compensate I go into some detail in this video on how to level a print bed on several of my machines I recommend a large flat print to verify that your print bed is dialed in before attempting a complex print to avoid any failures this Square and circle from fevers user C brunner is a really good

An inkometer is a specialized measuring instrument used by the printing industry to measure the tack (adhesiveness) of an ink with the roller system on an offset press.
The ink tack commonly is measured on an Inkometer by means of a torque measurement. The configuration involves two rubber rollers with a brass roller in between. Speeds of the Inkometer are set to approximate the printing process. That is, typically 800 rpm for sheet-fed and 1,200 rpm for web offset.
Tack is measured 1 min after inks are distributed evenly on the rollers. Ink stabilities or ink length are compared at 10 min. Typically, sheet-fed inks have tacks of 15, whereas those of web offset inks are 10.
Tack is a measure of the forces required to split a single film into two. In case of ink, such film splitting is influenced by rheological and adhesive ink properties and the internal cohesion of the ink. Tack depends heavily on the ink formulation.

Generally one of the best ways to directly test the ink is to print a test page. Test page printing can be accessed from the Control Panel menu on the computer, where the Printer and Fax menu offers the option to print a test page.
