hey everybody forest here with rocky mountain school of photography and today were going to take a look at one of the biggest and most common things i see new photographers struggling with and that is the ability to take a sharp photograph now in order to understand this we need to talk a little bit about the difference between sharpness and focus because theyre very distinct things i might do an in-depth video in the future about how these two things break down and a little bit more on it but the basics are this taking an in-focus picture means that you successfully focused the camera basically means you know if youre using autofocus you pointed at the subject push the auto focus button or manual focus you spun the focus ring and you were focused on your subject that is in focus and taking an in-focus photo is relatively easy right usually were using autofocus or something like that and were trusting the camera to do that so in focus does not necessarily mean sharp theres a lot

Many cameras today have an Auto ISO feature that is very useful for capturing sharp pictures. So, set it to On. Set your Maximum Sensitivity to ISO 1600. If you have the option to select a minimum shutter speed, set it to Auto as well, which automatically applies the hand-holding rule!
If your images are a bit soft, a bit blurry or a bit out of focus, its going to be one of only 3 reasons causing the problem - an autofocus issue, a depth of field issue, or a shutter speed issue.
15 Tips For Getting Razor Sharp Photos Use manual focus. Mirror lock up. Clean lens. Use a tripod or other sturdy surface. Block wind. Weigh down your tripod. Get closer, and use a shorter focal length and lens. Dont go too wide.
Achieving tack sharp images involves doing lots of small things as well as possible. These tiny differences add up to a noticeably sharper photo. In photography, the term tack sharp describes an image which shows the main subject in sharp focus, with clean lines, crisp details, and no blurring.
10 Tips For Taking Sharp Photos With Your Camera Focus On The Subject. Use A Fast Shutter Speed. Use The Right ISO Setting. Find Your Lens Sweet Spot Use Remote Shutter Release Or Timer. Use Mirror Lock-Up. Use Image Stabilization. Make Sure Your Lens Is Clean.
General Tips for Maximum Sharpness Use the Sharpest Aperture. Camera lenses can only achieve their sharpest photos at one particular aperture. Switch to Single Point Autofocus. Lower Your ISO. Use a Better Lens. Remove Lens Filters. Check Sharpness on Your LCD Screen. Make Your Tripod Sturdy. Use a Remote Cable Release.
To get tack-sharp pictures, you need to freeze motion. And in order to freeze motion, you need to have a high enough shutter speed. If you are shooting in manual mode, be sure that your shutter speed is above 1/200. Anything below that is going to be blurry with much motion.
Be sure not to focus too close to the lens. Each lens has a close focus distance, and the camera manufacturers like to push the envelope with this distance. I usually find that if I focus right at the closest point where the lens will still focus, the result is a blurry shot.
