The CSV filetype is a plain text file that holds lists of data and is useful for moving information between different software. Sometimes when opening a CSV file in Microsoft Excel the data appears jumbled such as in this example. This data is from an Atlas Copco MTF6000 controller and contains torque verification data. By examining the text I can see that the data is separated using semicolons, not commas. This would explain why Excel isnt properly displaying the data. To fix this issue we must open the Text Import Wizard. In older versions of Excel this is done by opening the CSV file using the File Import action, but in this newer version we must manually open the file by selecting File, then opening it from the disk or recent files list. Now that the Text Import Wizard is open we must tell Excel to use the Delimited data type which separates the text into fields using certain characters. Select Delimited and click next. We determined that this Atlas Copco log file uses semicolon

Steps to automatically remove spaces in the CSV file: Open csv file in Microsoft Excel. Select the Tag column. Select Edit Replace then select the Options button. Select the Search drop down and select By Columns. In the Find what field input a space and leave the Replace with field blank. Select Replace All.
1. Enclose the text which has delimiters(comma) as a part of the text with double quotes/single quote. 2. When loading the source csv file, under the source tab, select Source Object Formatting Options Text qualifier Double Quote / Single quote ingly.
The field delimiter is the character used to separate fields in the CSV data to be exported. For example, use \t as the field delimiter for a file with fields that are separated by tabs. If the fields are separated by commas, enter the comma character , (enter just the character, with no quotes).
Trailing Commas Saving an Excel file as a CSV file can create extra commas at the end of each row. Trailing commas can result when columns are deleted or column headers removed. When the file is uploaded to Clever, an extra trailing comma will skew subsequent rows of data, preventing them from being processed.
Heres a way to do it without formulas or macros: Save your CSV as Excel. Select any cells that might have commas. Open to the Format menu and click on Cells. Pick the Custom format. Enter this = \@\ Click OK. Save the file as CSV.
Re: Handling comma in the data while writing to a CSV. So for data fields that contain a comma, you should just be able to wrap them in a double quote. Fields containing line breaks (CRLF), double quotes, and commas should be enclosed in double-quotes.
You need to specify text qualifiers. Generally a double quote () is used as text qualifiers. All the text is always put inside it and all the commas inside a text qualifier is ignored. This is a standard method for all CSV, languages and all platforms for properly handling the text.
Change the default list separator for saving files as text (.csv) in Excel Clear Excel Options Advanced Editing options Use system separators. Set Decimal separator to , (a comma). Set Thousands separator to . (a period).
