They do perform background checks, but fees are still high and can add up if you miss a payment or have a direct debit default, and the low minimum repayments can keep you paying off your debt for years and racking up monthly fees. The claim to be interest free is technically true for Zip Pay, but not Zip Money.
Zip charges customers an account establishment fee and a monthly fee, but waives the monthly fee when the account balance is zero. Zip pay-in-4: Customers pay for purchases over 4 installments. Zip adds a finance charge based on the purchase amount, and splits the total amount into 4 equal installments.
*Zip Pay: Minimum monthly repayments are required. A monthly account fee of $9.95 applies. This fee is waived each month you pay your statement closing balance, in full, by the due date. Available to approved applicants only.
Please keep in mind that the monthly account fee will be charged if the statement closing balance is not paid, in full, by the due date. The best part is - if theres no balance, there are no fees to keep the account open!
Zip doesnt directly charge interest on its four-payment installment plan. Technically, its 0% interest. Whats easy to overlook, however, is that it imposes a finance charge, which Zip calls its installment fee. This fee is automatically divided into four and added to each installment payment on your plan.
The only types of fees that customers may be charged using the Zip are finance charges and late fees, as provided in our Terms of Service and are subject to future amendments.
Zip Pay repayments are automatically direct debited from the payment method attached to your account. You can change the frequency of your Zip Pay repayments to weekly, fortnightly or monthly, as long as you pay a minimum of $40 per month (or $80 if your credit limit is greater than $1,000).
