Services in Maryland are generally not taxable, with a few exceptions: Admissions and amusements (note: this is a separate tax in addition to sales tax)
Tax-exempt goods Some goods are exempt from sales tax under Maryland law. Examples include most non-prepared food items, prescription and over-the-counter medicines, and medical supplies.
Do I have to pay sales and use tax? Yes. Real property contractors must pay the 6 percent sales tax on building materials and supplies. Items purchased out‐of‐state, either directly, by mail, Internet or telephone, are also taxable if they are delivered in or brought into Maryland for use in this State.
The sales and use tax applies to charges for the fabrication or assembly of tangible personal property by special order. Fabrication or assembly labor charges are taxable even if the customer provides the materials. For this reason, the charges for bringing a new item to its finished state are taxable.
The Senior Tax Credit is available to homeowners at least 65 for whom the property is their principal residence (see the HOTC page for details); Interested homeowners must submit the Homeowners Tax Credit Application to the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT).
A separately stated installation charge, made known to the customer at the time of sale, is not subject to tax. A charge to place a complete, separable and functioning unit at the job site is an installation charge.
State of Maryland Admissions and Amusement Tax Rates The State admissions and amusement tax rate remains at 30% for all other counties. The state tax is in addition to any county or municipal admissions and amusement tax which may be levied on those items.
The state of Maryland does not impose an annual car tax. ing to the Maryland Department of Transportation, only six per cent of excise tax applies on the new purchase of a car. It implies the total book value of the vehicle, not the selling price. For older cars, the tax is calculated by the purchase price.
