A Texas Tax ID number is assigned by the states comptroller or franchise tax board. The federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a nine-digit number issued to a business or company by the IRS. As part of the application process for getting your Texas Tax ID, you must be able to provide the federal EIN.
Your Employer Identification Number (EIN) is your federal tax ID. You need it to pay federal taxes, hire employees, open a bank account, and apply for business licenses and permits.
An LLC will need an EIN if it has any employees or if it will be required to file any of the excise tax forms listed below. Most new single-member LLCs classified as disregarded entities will need to obtain an EIN. An LLC applies for an EIN by filing Form SS-4, Application for Employer Identification Number.
The IRS doesnt provide a public database you can use to look up EIN numbers for your own company or others. However, you can look at your EIN confirmation letter or other places your number may be recorded, including previously filed tax returns or old financing documents.
Your Texas LLC needs an EIN to: Open an LLC business bank account. Obtain business lines of credit or business loans. Get a business credit card.
