Excel for desktop recently got a new feature where you can insert your data from a picture. You might be wondering, amp;quot; When do I use this? Canamp;#39;t I just get the data in the proper format?amp;quot; Iamp;#39;m going to take you through some use cases that I personally find useful. The other important question is, amp;quot;Does it work properly or do you end up with more work because you have to fix everything afterwards?amp;quot; Well, Iamp;#39;m going to use different types of images and weamp;#39;re going to test it out together and letamp;#39;s see what we get as the final outcome. Our first test case is a screenshot. So, I often get screenshots of peopleamp;#39;s spreadsheets looking for solutions. They canamp;#39;t always share the file itself because of sensitive data, but for me itamp;#39;s easier to figure out a solution when I can actually use the data and Iamp;#39;m not a fan of recreating the screenshot by hand. This metadata, known more specifically as EXIF data for images, contains descriptive information that makes each image unique. That includes the creation date, camera information and settings and your location. This information allows apps to quickly identify photos and organize them.
If you want to hide data (text, another image, whatever) in a jpeg file, you can simply append it to the end of the file. When the image is viewed, youll only see the original image and your added data will be ignored.
Your photo may have a location if: Your devices camera saves your location with the photo. You add a location. Google Photos estimates your location from information such as landmarks detected in your photo and locations in your other photos.
A JPEG file contains several segments; each segment contains different kinds of data, delimited by two-byte codes called markers. The markers are hexadecimal; they begin with 0xFF and end with a code (1 byte) indicating the kind of marker.
If your photo is on a PC, you can find the geotag by right-clicking the image, then clicking Properties. In the Details tab, youll see a section called GPS, which includes Latitude, Longitude, and Altitude (if there is one tagged).
In Windows, all you have to do is right-click a picture file, select Properties, and then click the Details tab in the properties window. Look for the Latitude and Longitude coordinates under GPS. The Properties window in Windows 10 and Windows 11 will not correctly display GPS coordinates.
Location data in photos (JPEG) is stored in the EXIF block, along with exposure, camera type etc.
A JPEG file also has a lot of metadata in each file containing auxiliary information about the image. On an average, this kind of metadata occupies 16% of size of the JPEG file.
