hello everyone today iamp;#39;ll be showing you how to properly do an xref in autocad next ref is when you would like to attach an existing drawing to a new or different drawing in this example we have our existing drawing here named xref and our new drawing here that we would like to attach the xref to now our first step is we want to create a new layer for the xref to do this you want to type in layer and click enter this is going to open up the layer properties manager once in here go ahead and right click and create a new layer by clicking new layer after youamp;#39;ve done that you can see a new layer has been created once you create the new layer you can go ahead and change the name or any other settings that you wish once youamp;#39;re done with that go ahead and exit out of the layer properties manager now that youamp;#39;ve done that you want to make sure you go to the top here and select the layer that you just created after that go ahead and type in the xref command and
