GOTHAM (Sans Serif) Gotham marks Michigan State University as an institution on the move. Gotham may be used in both headlines and text. It has been licensed for MSU units to use on university websites. To learn more, refer to the MSU Web Standards.
Michigan State University has chosen primary and secondary typefaces that represent MSUs brand. The primary typeface is Gotham. The secondary typeface is Californian. Please note, Gotham and Californian do not come as part of a standard font package on computers.
GOTHAM (sans serif) Gotham has been an essential part of MSUs brand identity for more than a decade.
The writing should be in a simple, sans serif fonts (fonts that include small lines or embellishments at the end of letters e.g. Times New Roman) like Calibri, Arial, Verdana or Helvetica. These fonts reduce the chance of letters blurring into one another and slowing the reader down.
Gentona is the primary workhorse for our communications. A wide display typeface called Obviously performs well as an accent to pair with Gentona or on its own in headlines. Used together, these two typefaces create a clear hierarchy and keep our content legible and engaging.
Roboto and Roboto Condensed Roboto is our workhorse font. It consists of 18 styles and weights and is easily readable in both print and web applications.
SMUs official brand fonts are Trade Gothic (sans serif) and Tiempos (serif).
Univers, Nunito Sans and the IBM Plex fonts can be used in a project alone, or sparingly combined to create a unique look that should fit seamlessly into the University of Michigan brand guidelines.
