The stroke is one of the main lines that make up the appearance of a character. The term is derived from the penmanship inherent in hand letteringand is therefore more metaphorical when talking about type.
Stem: A main stroke that is more or less straight, not part of a bowl. Serif: A stroke added to the beginning or end of one of the main strokes of a letter. Small Capital: Short capital letters designed to blend with lowercase text. Stroke: A straight or curved line that creates the principal part of a letter.
Font: Your font should generally be 12 point Times New Roman. Though some agents and editors may prefer different serif or sans serif fonts like Arial or Courier New, Times New Roman with a 12 point font size is the industry standard.
stroke noun (MARK) a movement of a pen or pencil when writing, or by a brush when painting, or the line or mark made by such a movement: With a stroke of his pen, the governor signed the bill into law.
A keystroke is the single pressing or clicking of a key on a computers keyboard. Keystrokes per minute (KSPM) is a common measurement of typing speed in addition to words per minute (WPM). Some applications and websites also use keystrokes as event triggers.
It is a scalable font which defines the letters form by using vectors (point-to-point line segments).
A serif is a short line at the beginning and the end of strokes. Serifs are what make a typeface a serif or a sans serif. Serifs can have different shapes: hairline, square/slab, wedge. They can all be bracketed or unbracketed, meaning that their connection to the stroke is rounded or perpendicular.
The first typeface was a Blackletter variety used by Johannes Gutenberg on the first printing press, starting in 1440. This typeface design was created to mimic the calligraphic handwriting used by monks to hand-transcribe manuscripts prior to the invention of the printing press.
