The Pap Perfect Plastic Spatula is used to collect cell samples from the ectocervix for Pap smear or Liquid Cytology. (The endocervical sample is usually collected with a Cytobrush Plus GT Endocervical Sampler.)
Your healthcare provider will use a small brush, swab or spatula to gently remove cells from the cervix and back of the vagina. They will place the cells in a vial of liquid or smear the cells on a glass microscope slide. If you need an HPV test, your provider will take a sample of cells for this test as well.
During a Pap smear, your doctor will insert a small plastic spatula or brush into your vagina to collect cervical cells for testing. You may experience mild discomfort when the doctor collects cells during this cervical cancer screening test.
Out of which, 95% ethanol is the commonly used fixative. Hence, the conventional method for fixation of Pap smear is to fix the Pap smear immediately in 95% ethyl alcohol after preparing the smear.
The test checks for abnormal cells in the cervix that are cancerous or have the potential to become cancerous. During a Pap smear, your healthcare provider takes cells from your cervix to examine under a microscope for signs of cancer.
Next, using a small spatula or brush, a sample of cells and mucus is lightly scraped from the exocervix (see illustration in What is Cervical Cancer? ). A small brush or a cotton-tipped swab is then inserted into the opening of the cervix to take a sample from the endocervix .
Silver nitrate is a chemical stick that is applied to the ectropion and cauterises the area. It takes approximately one to two minutes. It is not used on large areas.
The principle of pap stain Solution 1 has Hematoxylin stain, a basic nuclear stain. Solution 2 has OG-6, an acidic cytoplasmic stain, has orange G with phosphotungstic acid (6 denotes the used concentration of phosphotungstic acid). Orange G is an acid dye and stains keratin with a bright intense orange.
