Its because of the Crypto Exchange platform FTX, which is behind this , named FTT. On November 6th, the tokens value began to fall, losing more than 80% of its worth in the span of 72 hours. Once seen as a survivor in a struggling market, the fall of FTX has sent shockwaves through the cryptocurrency industry. So, what went wrong? FTX is the brainchild of Sam Bankman-Fried. Hes commonly known as SBF on social media. Founded by Sam Bankman-Fried in 2019, FTX used customer funds to finance political donations, buy real estate and invest in other companies, U.S. authorities said this week. FTX filed for bankruptcy in November after being unable to meet about $8 billion in customer withdrawal requests.
FTX is a global cryptocurrency exchange that operates with two branches: FTX.com and FTX.US. International users can use FTX.com to invest in hundreds of different cryptos and pay low trading fees. In contrast, U.S. customers use FTX.US, which supports about 20 cryptos but also has low trading fees.
What happened to FTX? FTX and FTX.US crashed due to a lack of liquidity and mismanagement of funds, followed by a large volume of withdrawals from rattled investors. The value of FTT plummeted, taking other coins down with it including Ethereum and Bitcoin, which docHubed a two-year low as of Nov. 9.
So, first off: What, exactly, is FTX? Markovich explains. Sarit MARKOVICH: FTX is a centralized exchange. So when you think about FTX, FTX is just the New York Stock Exchange. However, instead of letting you buy and sell stocks of large organizations, it lets you buy and sell crypto.
The FTX was created to provide traders with a way to save on trading fees. When users pay for their trades using FTT, they are given a discount on the fees charged. The more FTT a user holds, the bigger the discount they receive.
The FTX exchange was a Crypto trading and derivatives platform founded by MIT graduate Sam Bankman-Fried, better known as SBF, in 2018. Before it fell apart, FTX offered Crypto trading products like margin trading and options. The FTX exchange was a centralized platform for people to store and trade cryptocurrencies.
How did FTX fail? FTX filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 11, 2022, after a surge of customer withdrawals earlier in the month. Then-CEO Sam Bankman-Fried admitted that the company didnt have sufficient assets in reserve to meet customer demand.
