RSVP, R.S.V.P., r.s.v.p., and R.s.v.p. are all acceptable ways to write the abbreviation, ing to etiquette experts at the Emily Post Institute. But both the Oxford English Dictionary and the AP Stylebook write the initialism without periods, as RSVP.
Wedding RSVP Etiquette Dont add additional guests. Dont swap out +1s. Dont (attempt to) RSVP to a wedding you havent been invited to. Fill out the response card fully, if provided. Much of the time, RSVP cards will include a line that tells you when you need to respond by. For instance, it may say Please RSVP by May 31. Thats a hard deadline but it doesnt mean that you cant answer faster. If you already know whether you can attend or not, go ahead and let the couple know.
For highly traditional RSVP cards, (usually for a wedding hosted by the bride or grooms parents), you can use a formal phrase such as The favour of a response is requested by. Otherwise, keep it simple and casual with phrases such as Kindly reply by or Please respond by.
The letter M is simply the beginning of the persons title Mr., Miss, Mrs. and Ms. which would then be followed by the persons name.
Many response cards will include an M followed immediately by a line. In keeping with more formal wedding tradition, the line is here as a way to kickstart your reply. The M stands for the first letter of the title you prefer to go by, be it Mr., Mrs., Ms., or Miss.
