In a Grade 1 injury, your ACL is stretched and endures mild damage. A Grade 2 injury, which is sometimes called a partial tear is actually quite rare, and a Grade 3 injury is a complete or nearly complete tear of the ACL. Grade 1 injuries can be treated with immobilization, bracing, and physical therapy.
1. The Agony of an ACL Tear. The pain experienced during an ACL tear is often described as a sharp, intense sensation in the knee. Athletes who have gone through this injury often compare it to being hit by a lightning bolt.
Causes Suddenly slowing down and changing direction (cutting) Pivoting with your foot firmly planted. Landing awkwardly from a jump. Stopping suddenly. Receiving a direct blow to the knee or having a collision, such as a football tackle.
A torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is the hardest sports injury that takes more recovery time. It is usually 12 months.
Because its smaller and weaker than the PCL, the ACL is more likely to sustain a complete tear.
ACL injuries are bad, but Achilles tendon injuries may be the worst. Complete recovery from an Achilles rupture can take a year and may signal the end of a promising career at the pro level.
The quick answer is that the ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) is most likely to be considered the worst ligament in the knee to tear.
When you injure your anterior cruciate ligament, you might hear a popping noise and you may feel your knee give out from under you. Other typical symptoms include: Pain with swelling. Within 24 hours, your knee will swell.
