Use JPEG to compress image data. Jpeg is suitable for high resolution and large photo images. Use ZIP to compress image. This method is suitable for screenshots, dialog boxes, drawings, or relatively small bitmap images.
The TIFF Options window will appear, offering different compression methods such as LZW, RLE, or ZIP1. Pick the one that best suits your needs, keeping in mind that all proposed compression methods are non-destructive2.
Baseline TIFF image types are: bilevel, grayscale, palette-color, and RGB full-color images.
TIFF files are very high qualitymuch higher quality than most JPEGsbut the trade-off is that theyre big. You do, however, have some options for making them smaller by using compression. When it comes to TIFF, two main compression options are availabletheyre known as LZW or ZIP.
PNGs can be easier to manage between programs because theyre smaller files. They may be smaller than TIFFs, but theyre still larger than JPEGs. Ultimately, this is one of the main reasons why JPEGs remain a more popular file type for online photos.
TIFF files offer high quality but can be large in size. Compression Options: LZW and ZIP: Both are lossless compression methods, preserving image quality. Compression reduces file size without quality loss, allowing faster transfers and saving storage space.
ZIP is also a lossless compression, so a TIFF that has been zipped may be okay. LZW would be more software-friendly though, as it retains the TIFF extension and most image editing software can handle them. The zipped TIFF would probably need to be unzipped to be viewed.
Windows Photos and Photo Viewer, both included with the different version of Windows, can be used to open a TIF file. These apps dont provide a means for editing them, though. On a Mac, the Preview app can open TIF files.
