The CSV filetype is a plain text file that holds lists of data and is useful for moving information between different software. Sometimes when opening a CSV file in Microsoft Excel the data appears jumbled such as in this example. This data is from an Atlas Copco MTF6000 controller and contains torque verification data. By examining the text I can see that the data is separated using semicolons, not commas. This would explain why Excel isnt properly displaying the data. To fix this issue we must open the Text Import Wizard. In older versions of Excel this is done by opening the CSV file using the File Import action, but in this newer version we must manually open the file by selecting File, then opening it from the disk or recent files list. Now that the Text Import Wizard is open we must tell Excel to use the Delimited data type which separates the text into fields using certain characters. Select Delimited and click next. We determined that this Atlas Copco log file uses semicolon t

By default, the escape character is a (double quote) for CSV-formatted files. If you want to use a different escape character, use the ESCAPE clause of COPY , CREATE EXTERNAL TABLE or the hawq load control file to declare a different escape character.
To deal with these embedded commas, CSV files use quotation marks to identify text that should be grouped together, so commas between quotation marks are not read as field separators. If you need to remove quotation marks from your export, you can do that quickly in Excel, for example, using the Find/Replace function.
Under the Data tab, navigate to Get External Data From Text. In the pop-up window that opens, select the CSV file you downloaded. Click Get Data. From the File origin: drop-down menu, select Unicode (UTF-8).
To remove the line break between the email addresses, and have multiple email addresses in one line, follow these steps: Open the Find/Replace command window (press Ctrl+H). In the Find what box, place your cursor. In the Replace with box, put your cursor. Then, click Replace All.
CSV character escaper: backslash \ The backslash is used to escape special characters in a CSV file. Example for any special character: if the CSV file is stored as Google Sheets: company\Subsidiary\ if the CSV file is stored as CSV: company\\Subsidiary\\
To escape the double quotation marks, enclose them within another double quotation mark. Here are a few examples to import double quotes. If you enter the following values in a CSV file: Laptop with 15 inch display.
1 Answer replace the double quotes with some other character (eg tilde ~ ); Generate the csv file. then use a text-editor (eg notepad, notepad++) on the resultant file to replace the other character with the double-quote, then send it to your program that apparently doesnt recognize this feature of csv files.
