all right so you are about to format a hard drive and then you see this option allocation unit size what does it mean well basically itamp;#39;s the setting that divides the hard drives into small units and the smaller the units are the longer time it will take to search through the library however if you have very small files they will instead take up a lot of more space because one unit may be filled by a very small very small file the range for the unit allocation size is usually 512 bytes to 64k bytes so you should usually set it to default which is usually 4k but just set it to default especially if you are using the hard drive as your operating system hard drive however there is a few instances you could change it to something else if you have a ssd drive thatamp;#39;s very small and you really run out of space on it and you really need to use all of the space and you donamp;#39;t care about it takes a little longer to search the drive then you can set the unit allocation size
