(soft music) (air whooshes) (audience clapping) - Little introduction on me before I start. My name is Michael Raggi. Iamp;#39;m currently a senior threat intelligence analyst at Anomali. That is a giant picture of my face. So if anybody canamp;#39;t see me in the back, thatamp;#39;s what I look like. The stage turns everyone into a vain monster. Formerly, I was employed at BAE Systems, working in the cyber threat intelligence team as part of their g-shock as well as at LookingGlass Cyber Security as part of their Morgan Stanley dedicated analyst team. And as Kristin said, I was previously employed recovering stolen art, and I have recovered over $11 million worth of stolen art in my career. So anyone can really do what we do, if you have enough time in front of a computer. Iamp;#39;m here today to tell you a research story. Specifically, a hunting story. In this story weamp;#39;re gonna learn how RTF Metadata can be used to track nation state adversaries from China. Weamp;#39;re

RTF Syntax An RTF file consists of unformatted text, control words, control symbols, and groups. For ease of transport, a standard RTF file can consist of only 7-bit ASCII characters. (Converters that communicate with Microsoft Word for Windows or Microsoft Word for the Macintosh should expect 8-bit characters.)
Code syntax. It is programmed using groups, a backslash, a control word and a delimiter. Groups are contained within curly braces ({}) and indicate which attributes should be applied to certain text. The backslash (\) introduces a control word, which is a specifically programmed command for RTF.
In technology, a backslash (\) is a typographical symbol or character used primarily in computing. It serves numerous purposes, such as file path separators in various operating systems and as an escape character in programming languages.
Markdown allows you to use backslash escapes to generate these literal characters. In other words, you must type a backslash character before typing certain literal characters (listed below). For example, if you wanted to surround a word with literal asterisks, you can use backslashes before the asterisks, like this
When R comes across a \ it assumes you are starting an escape, so if you actually need a backslash in your string youll need the sequence \\ .
It is the mirror image of the common slash /. It is a relatively recent mark, first documented in the 1930s. It is sometimes called a hack, whack, escape (from C/UNIX), reverse slash, slosh, downwhack, backslant, backwhack, bash, reverse slant, reverse solidus, and reversed virgule.
An RTF file comprises a series of control words, control symbols, and groups. A control word is a sequence of letters preceded by a backslash and terminated by a space, digit, or any non-alphabetic character. Control words support the representation of the structure, formatting, and layout of document text.
FILE= external-file | fileref opens the RTF destination and specifies the RTF file or SAS catalog to which to write. This file remains open until you do one of the following actions: Close the RTF destination with ODS RTF CLOSE or ODS ALL CLOSE. Specify a different file to which to write.
