hello my name is Mindy Taylor I am an accredited genealogist professional specializing in the England region and in this video we will be discussing extraction transcription and abstraction letamp;#39;s just dive right in to extraction an extract is an exact copy of a select piece of a document some general rules of extraction are you copy the information exactly as it appears in the document and you use quotation marks so hereamp;#39;s an example of extraction we have a full page of baptisms from a parish register and instead of making a copy of the whole document all we want is the information that applies to the research weamp;#39;re doing so we extract that information copying it exactly it is written as it is written and put it in quotation marks so here we have John the son of John and Anne Johnson who was baptized February 21st 1737 and John the son of John and Ann Johnson was buried February 26th 1737 all right moving on to transcription the process of creating an exact copy
