All right! Often in robotics what weamp;#39;d like to do is use our camera to see how many objects we see in that camera. So imagine that this is an image that youamp;#39;re given that your camera receives. Itamp;#39;s a picture of a brontosaurus. Itamp;#39;s lying on its back because itamp;#39;s just been killed by this comet thatamp;#39;s streaking through the sky. If you canamp;#39;t see that well, just sort of squint at the image and youamp;#39;ll be able to see it after a while. This is our image. What weamp;#39;d like is our computer to be able to tell us how many objects are in this image. So weamp;#39;re going to do that by taking this image and then thresholding it so we can identify all the dark pixels as an object and everything thatamp;#39;s light as the background. So first we do a grayscale of this image so you can see that the comet and the dead brontosaurus are both much darker in the background. Then weamp;#39;re going to find

A binary image is one that consists of pixels that can have one of exactly two colors, usually black and white. Binary images are also called bi-level or two-level, Pixelart made of two colours is often referred to as 1-Bit or 1bit. This means that each pixel is stored as a single biti.e., a 0 or 1.
Approach: Read the image from the location. As a colored image has RGB layers in it and is more complex, convert it to its Grayscale form first. Set up a Threshold mark, pixels above the given mark will turn white, and below the mark will turn black.
BW = im2bw( I , level ) converts the grayscale image I to binary image BW , by replacing all pixels in the input image with luminance greater than level with the value 1 (white) and replacing all other pixels with the value 0 (black). This range is relative to the signal levels possible for the images class.
Each pixel in an image is made up of binary numbers. If we say that 1 is black (or on) and 0 is white (or off), then a simple black and white picture can be created using binary. To create the picture, a grid can be set out and the squares coloured (1 black and 0 white).
A binary number system is one of the four types of number system. In computer applications, where binary numbers are represented by only two symbols or digits, i.e. 0 (zero) and 1(one). The binary numbers here are expressed in the base-2 numeral system. For example, (101)2 is a binary number.
Bitmap images are organised as a grid of coloured squares called pixels. Each different colour in the image is stored as a binary number. When zooming in or enlarging a bitmap image, the pixels are stretched and made into larger blocks. The quality of bitmap images reduces as they are enlarged.
Binary images are images whose pixels have only two possible intensity values. They are normally displayed as black and white. Numerically, the two values are often 0 for black, and either 1 or 255 for white.
Code Explanation: I = imread(lighthouse. imshow(I); This line displays the input image I in the figure window. J = im2bw(I,0.5); This line converts the RGB Image to Binary with the threshold level set at 0.5 for comparing intensity levels of pixels.
