Thats why its important to make sure you keep your bank statements somewhere safe, and always use a shredder when disposing of them. Never ever share your bank details with someone you dont trust, and make sure you know the fraud policies at your bank.
If you have a hard copy of your bank statement, you can redact your personal information using a black marker or pen to cover up the information you want to keep private. Simply black out the information you dont want to share, ensuring its completely covered and unreadable.
A redacting bank statement can allow you you hide or remove confidential information. Are you part of a legal process requiring you to provide your bank statement? If so, you may wish to learn how to redact confidential information on the documents for privacy concerns.
In a bank statement, you should redact: Account number. Social Security number. Personally Identifiable Information (PII) Transactions Details.
Even if you cross out your mistake and initial it, your bank may not validate it. These kinds of corrections often mean that someone has altered the check without the owner knowing, leading the bank to believe your check isnt authentic.
TIP! In preparation for having your documents scanned, know that financial information and account numbers can be blacked out on forms and cards such as checking account statements or ATM/Debit cards. You can use a black marker on paper statements and tape on cards to black out this information.
Delete a bank transaction From Banking, select the relevant bank account. From the Activity tab, select the tick box to the left the transactions you want to delete. A toolbar now appears above the list. From the toolbar, select the Delete button.
Legal Redaction In certain situations, redacting information from a bank statement can be legal and necessary. For example, financial institutions may redact sensitive personal information, such as account numbers or social security numbers, because of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.
