hey everyone and welcome back in this video well be discussing strike and dip specifically defining them and then looking at some examples to see them exactly what they look like on different diagrams so well start with dip and what it basically is it is its the slope of the of really any surface but in geology we use it for usually bedding planes and strata or sometimes contact boundaries such as faults so thats the key word there slope and there are two components to dip but they usually arent represented as a vector we usually discuss them separately you cant put them together however and those are angle and direction so the angle should make plenty of sense in the direction is pretty simple afterwards lets just say weve got a on a three dimensional diagram here and will say that this is the surface and this is a dipping um piece of strata that has poked above the surface here now the angle of dip you may look at this and say well theres quite a few angles to observe here
