Hit BBC drama Strike, based on J.K. Rowlings best-selling crime novels written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, is coming back for a new series. The Ink Black Heart will be the sixth story, and will see Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger reprise their roles as Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott respectively.
While the seventh novel of The Running Grave might leave fans feeling frustrated as, once again, Robin and Cormoran dont get together, the novel ends on something of a cliffhanger while marking the closest the characters have ever come to discuss their feelings with one another. So what happened?
The relationship ends messily, leaving Strike wounded in his good leg by a stiletto heel. Robin realises her feelings for Strike are profound, but decides he has no romantic interest in her.
Plot. After Strike and Robin visit The Ritz for Robins 30th birthday, Strike attempts to kiss Robin; she evades the kiss. Feeling rebuffed, Strike starts a relationship with Madeline, an acquaintance of his ex-fiance Charlotte, a relationship he keeps secret from Robin.
Wealthy and mercurial, she and Strike had a tempestuous on-off relationship for 16 years after first meeting at Oxford, but Strike ends their engagement for good as the events of the first novel begin.
Matthew Cunliffe Robins estranged husband, from whom she becomes divorced during the novel. Charlotte Campbell Ross Strikes ex-girlfriend who is currently married and mother to twin toddlers. Lucy Cormoran Strikes younger maternal half-sister.
I do hope that the last two books have more of Strike and Robin together and that the cases are more interesting and less clichd. The seventh book ends with Strike finally admitting to Robin that he is in love with her, so there is at least the promise of some progress in their relationship in the next book.
(2) She Has Ten Strike Novels Plotted In todays comments she told Norton that she had ten books in mind, which, because Ink Black Heart, Strike6, is set in 2015, means a book a year if she is to get to Strike10 before the March 2020 lockdown in the UK.
