Now lot of people look up to me as the I shoot RAW guy because I so happened to brand myself as the I shoot RAW guy over the last six-plus years of posting videos online. As you know, I love shooting RAW and we should take a look at this to see the eight reasons why you should shoot in JPEG by Eric Kim. So lets go ahead and read these reasons off. First of all the camera does a good job of processing JPEG images in camera. Each camera is optimized to produce a lovely looking JPEG images so in terms of color, tone, skin tones, and contrast generally the JPEG images look solid out of camera. EXIF data is embedded in JPEG images and contains information about the camera that took the picture, as well as GPS location data, which can be used to determine the pictures origin. The JPEG File Interchange Format (JFIF) is a JPEG-based file format for images.
A JPEG image consists of a sequence of segments, each beginning with a marker, each of which begins with a 0xFF byte, followed by a byte indicating what kind of marker it is.
A JPEG file contains several segments; each segment contains different kinds of data, delimited by two-byte codes called markers. The markers are hexadecimal; they begin with 0xFF and end with a code (1 byte) indicating the kind of marker.
A JPEG file supports up to 24-bit color and uses lossy compression to compress images for more convenient storage and sending. This may make JPEGs better for everyday use, but it does mean sacrificing some of the original image quality.
