HOLLYWOOD REMAINS AT A STANDSTILL WITH SIMULTANEOUS STRIKES FROM WRITERS AND ACTORS. ONE SHOW WAS GIVEN THE GREEN LIGHT TO CONTINUE SHOOTING. THEY HAVE GRANTED THE CHOSEN A WAIVER TO FINISH FILMING THEIR FOURTH SEASON, CALLING IT A, QUOTE, TRULY INDEPENDENT PRODUCTION. THE SHOW IS A DRAMA THAT FOCUSES ON THE LIFE OF JESUS CHRIST. WE ARE JOINED NOW BY THE EDITOR- IN-CHIEF FOR TV LINE.COM. WHY WERE THEY GIVEN THAT EXEMPTION? THIS IS TRULY AN EXAMPLE OF INDEPENDENT PRODUCTIONS. PART OF THE TOPIC IS TO MAKE THEM FEEL THE WORK STOPPAGE BY SEIZING ACTING, NUMBER PROMOTION, NO MORE SOCIAL MEDIA. A SHOW LIKE THE CHOSEN THOUGH HAS BEEN CROWD FUNDED SINCE 2019. The Hollywood actors union said Tuesday that it had exempted 39 independent film and TV projects from its strike, including two movies from A24, the secretive New York company that has become a force at the Academy Awards.

And these men that makeMoreSo far there are 39 independent Productions that have met sags demands. And these men that make this much money are calling actors and writers demands unreasonable.
As of July 25, the union has granted interim agreements to more than 50 approved productions, including certain projects by smaller studios like A24, which is responsible for films like Moonlight; Bodies, Bodies, Bodies and Everything Everywhere All At Once, among others.
A strike waiver is an agreement that allows a production to continue filming or to attend a public event, such as a film festival, even though the strike is still in effect.
In 2022 the company raised $225 million from a group of investors, including private equity firm Stripes LLC. The deal valued A24 at $2.5 billion, a staggering amount by the penurious standards of the indie film world. Now, bolstered by Wall Street riches, its making a run at scaling up its indieness.
A24 and NEON are just a few of the companies that have chosen to comply with the SAG/WGA demands, while larger studios with billion-dollar budgets continue to wreak havoc. At this point, it shouldnt surprise me that studios like Disney, Netflix, and Amazon would be acting this way.
The agreements are being granted to truly independent producers as long as they are not affiliated with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and agree to be bound retroactively to whatever contract terms eventually are achieved with the AMPTP when the strike is settled.
One of the A24 projects granted waivers to continue with production during the strike, Death of a Unicorn is directed by first-timer Alex Scharfman. Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd star in the film as two people who hit a unicorn with their car and bring it to the wilderness retreat of a pharmacuetical CEO.
