The Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) 2.0 specification defines both a) a set of document types for authoring and organizing topic-oriented information; and b) a set of mechanisms for combining, extending, and constraining document types.
DITA maps also use many of the same attributes that are used with link or xref elements in DITA content: format, scope, href, keyref, type, query.
DITA is not just a standard but a methodologysome might even call it a philosophy. Unlike a Word document, which produces a static piece of content, each piece of DITA content represents a unique XML file. By standardizing and leveraging content, DITA allows for content reuse across multiple publications.
The DITA ID attribute provides a method to uniquely identify content (topics or elements) to reference. In a DITA topic, you can assign a unique ID to an element to use the element when you are creating a conrefs (Content references) or cross-references (Cross-references) to the element from another topic.
DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture) is a method of writing and storing content using a set of structuring rules that tell machines how to interpret that content. Its essentially a system of tags and maps that allow you to navigate through your content more easily.
DITA stands for Darwin Information Type Architecture, and is a generic and adaptable XML-based open standard to manage, create, and publish content. Defined and maintained by the OASIS DITA Technical Committee, DITA uses topics, maps, and output formats to generate documents.
The element provides a top-level container for multiple topics when you create documents using the ditabase document type. The element lets you create any sequence of concept, task, and reference topics, and the ditabase document type lets you further nest these topic types inside each other.
