Writing the Date in Full In formal writing, always write the date in full when it is part of a sentence. This usually involves giving the day of the month, the month, and the year: The meeting will take place on April 21, 2019. Note that the year follows after a comma.

Change the date system in Excel You can change the date system by doing the following: Click File Options Advanced. Under the When calculating this workbook section, select the workbook that you want, and then select or clear the Use 1904 date system check box.
Select the cells you want to format. Press CTRL+1. In the Format Cells box, click the Number tab. In the Category list, click Date, and then choose a date format you want in Type.
Why wont they show a short date, without time included, in the cells formatting? In Excel, dates are stored as sequential serial numbers. The imported dates are probably stored as a text value, instead of real numbers, and that is causing the formatting problem.
Select all of the dates you want to convert and press Ctrl+C to copy them. Open Notepad or any other text editor, and paste the copied dates there. Notepad automatically converts the dates to the text format. Press Ctrl+A to select all text strings, and then Ctrl+C to copy them.
The ISO 8601 format YYYY-MM-DD (2022-12-10) is intended to harmonize these formats and ensure accuracy in all situations. Many countries have adopted it as their sole official date format, though even in these areas writers may adopt abbreviated formats that are no longer recommended.
Select the cells you want to format. Press CTRL+1. In the Format Cells box, click the Number tab. In the Category list, click Date, and then choose a date format you want in Type.
The ISO standard takes a general-to-specific approach for its date formats: The year comes first, followed by the month and then by the day of the month, with most elements represented as numerical values. For example, the ISO representation for July 15, 2022 is either 20220715 or 2022-07-15.
