Enabling automatic spelling and grammar checking Open Microsoft Word on your Mac. Click the Word tab in the top left. Select Preferences from the drop-down menu. Then, click on Spelling Grammar in the Preferences window. Check both Check spelling as you type and Check grammar as you type.
