hi Im Joe James and in this video Im going to show you how to sort a file line-by-line using Python so I created this file called bans dot txt which is just a list of different bands and theres one band on each line of the file were going to read in line by line were going to sort the bands and then were going to either print them to the screen or write them to another file in sorted order so lets take a look at our program here were going to start out in our Python program with a list called bands and thats just an empty list then the first thing were going to be like I said is read the bands in from the file were going to sort the bands and then were going to write the sorted bands to a file so file name equals bands text thats the name of our file and with open file name which is bands text as FN so this common Python lingo for reading in the file youll call with open file name as FN for line in FN in other words for each line do everything inside this for loop bands

Use the sort command to alphabetize lines in the files specified by the File parameters and write the result to standard output. If the File parameter specifies more than one file, the sort command concatenates the files and alphabetizes them as one file.
To sort lines of text files, we use the sort command in the Linux system. The sort command is used to prints the lines of its input or concatenation of all files listed in its argument list in sorted order. The operation of sorting is done based on one or more sort keys extracted from each line of input.
Step 1: First to select Edit menu than select Line operation. Step 2: After select Sort Lines Lexicographically ascending.
The command produces a sorted list of lines that contain the specified text. Then type the text that you want sorted, and press ENTER at the end of each line. When you have finished typing text, press CTRL+Z, and then press ENTER. The sort command displays the text you typed, sorted alphabetically.
The sort command sorts lines in the files specified by the File parameter and writes the result to standard output. If the File parameter specifies more than one file, the sort command concatenates the files and sorts them as one file. A -(minus sign) in place of a file name specifies standard input.
Although theres no straightforward way to sort a text file, we can achieve the same net result by doing the following: 1) Use the FileSystemObject to read the file into memory; 2) Sort the file alphabetically in memory; 3) Replace the existing contents of the file with the sorted data we have in memory.
On the NotePad tab, select the row numbers of the rows you want to sort. Click Sort on the speedbar. The column or columns you selected become the defaulted row or rows in the sort by field(s). To sort the lowest number or the beginning of the alphabet first, select Ascending.
