The order of footnotes should go left to right, followed by top to bottom. A third footnote could be used here. Use the same superscript letter in the footnote text below the table. Footnotes that are full sentences should finish with a full stop.
Footnotes or headnotes: In tables, footnotes are attached to specific cells, including cells that contain column headings or row headings. However, if the contents of a footnote apply to the entire table, it is best to use a headnote, which typically appears after the title of the table but before its body.
Each footnote should appear at the bottom of the page that includes its numbered in-text reference. For note numbers in the text, use superscript. Indent the first line of each note half an inch like a paragraph in the main text. Use a short line (or rule) to separate footnotes from the main text.
As for the explanation at the bottom of the page ( e.g. authors, editors or translators note), place the asterisk immediately before the explanation. Notes referenced by an asterisk or other symbol should come before any numbered footnotes in the list at the bottom of the page.
