so hereamp;#39;s a simple demonstration of authentication services specifically papal also known as password authentication protocol tap is a basic but weak authentication method that uses a non encrypted password exchange so hereamp;#39;s our PAP works so you enter your username in this case Hubert and password in this case itamp;#39;s uber 101 hit the login button and the client sends in the username and password across the network in the clear to the PAP server so the PAP server already has a database with the with the clientamp;#39;s username and password and then it compares the two and from the two sets of information and if they match then the client receives a message indicating that their authentication was like success and theyamp;#39;re given access to the network

As the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) sends data unencrypted and in the clear, PAP is vulnerable to any attacker who can observe the PPP session.
Password Authentication Protocol, or PAP, and Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol, or CHAP, are both used to authenticate PPP sessions and can be used with many VPNs. PAP works like a standard login procedure. The remote system authenticates itself by using a static username and password combination.
The main difference between PAP and CHAP is that PAP uses a Two-Way Handshake and sends the password in clear-text form, whereas CHAP uses a Three-Way Handshake and never sends the password between the parties. As a result, CHAP is much more secure than PAP.
PAP (Password Authentication Protocol): An authentication protocol that uses a password. Not the strongest authentication protocol. CHAP (Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol): Authenticates a user or network host to an authenticating entity (e.g., an internet service provider). Stronger than PAP.
PAP, or password authentication protocol, is a point-to-point protocol (PPP) authentication method that uses passwords to validate users. It is an internet standard (RFC 1334), password-based authentication protocol. Using PAP, data is not encrypted. It is sent to the authentication server as plain text.
CHAP: Conclusion. If you have to choose between PAP and CHAP, choosing CHAP is a no-brainer. Not only is CHAP more secure, but also well-supported by network access servers. RADIUS authentication supports both PAP and CHAP, so there is no real reason to use PAP.
