the other day i was asked why i cut my serifs first on my letters i thought that was an interesting question and i have a main reason why i do that but first uh that one of the preliminary reasons why i cut my facets or and my serifs first at the ends of my letters is because then when i use my chisel to punch the center of the letter i know where to start punching and where to stop punching if i dont have that basically triangle cut already its easy for me to slide my chisel too far towards the end of the letter and i end up punching the corner of my chisel into where the facet should be and then i have to make my letters wider to get rid of that little punch mark in the end of the facet so thats one reason the other reason why i like to cut the facets first is because they act like a stop cut for any uh of my of the wood running splitting and running beyond the end of the letter so at this stage in the of my wood carving and my leather carving here i would carve start carving my v
