At a minimum, adding a legend to a chart requires setting the legends IsVisible property to true and setting the Title attribute in the Data nodes that are to appear in the legend box. This example shows such a minimal legend. This example shows more of the attributes that affect a legend.
The legend displays the elements Name property value as the corresponding items text. To change item text for strips, constant lines, and indicators, specify their LegendText property.
Show a chart legend Select a chart and then select the plus sign to the top right. Point to Legend and select the arrow next to it.
Legends should be placed below or to the right to a data visualization, depending on the type of data being labeled and the available space surrounding the data visualization. When a large set of values exist ensure the legend is placed on the right of the chart.
Legend in ASP.NET Webforms Chart By default, the legend is enabled in the chart. To add the title to the legend, you have to specify the Legend. By using the Position option, you can position the legend at Left, Right, Top or Bottom of the chart. Legend Alignment.
Click the chart, and then click the Chart Design tab. Click Add Chart Element Legend. To change the position of the legend, choose Right, Top, Left, or Bottom. To change the format of the legend, click More Legend Options, and then make the format changes that you want.
The position of the legend box is controlled by its Viewport attribute. The viewport is the region of the Control , in which the chart is being drawn, that the legend box occupies. The upper left corner is (0,0) and the lower right corner is (1,1). The default value of the legend viewport is [0.83, 0.0] by [0.2, 0.2].
By default, the legend is positioned in the top-right corner of the chart. This position can be modified by using the Docking and Alignment properties of the legend. The legend can also be associated with a chart area by use of the DockedToChartArea property.
