The information unit used to compose a DITA document is called a topic . As its name suggests, a topic addresses a single subject. The overall contents of a DITA document are specified using a topic map (also simply called a map ). A map mainly contains a hierarchy of topic references.
DITA allows you to reuse content by referencing it in another topic. DITA provides several mechanisms for including content by reference ( conref , conkeyref , coderef ). A conref (content reference) creates a direct reference to a specific element of another topic.
DITA map files are used for defining the topics of a publication, specifying the topic sequence, and controlling linking between topics. DITA map (or ditamap ) files have three primary purposes: Topic Manifest. To define the topics to be processed into the output publication.
The real difference between DITA and DocBook-like XML applications is DITAs focus on modularity, reuse, and interoperation, which results in a very different architecture as compared to more traditional XML applications for published documents.
Right-click a map file in the Project view and select Open with DITA Maps Manager. If you have a DITA map file open in the XML editor, you can right-click the title tab and select Open in DITA Maps Manager View.
DITA XML is a powerful technology designed to facilitate text authoring, reuse, and translation, and it is especially popular in the field of technical writing for user guides and elearning materials.
Create a DITA map Choose File New DITA . Alternatively, choose File New XML. By default, a DITA map is opened in the Resource Manager. You can use the available FrameMaker tools, such as the Structure View and Elements panel, to work with a DITA map. You can also include relationship tables to a DITA map.
