The important difference between 600 and i-Type film is the absence of a battery inside the film cartridge. This means that i-Type film will not work with vintage Polaroid cameras. New Polaroid cameras have a built-in rechargeable battery, so they dont need a battery to power the camera.
The Spectra uses the same film formula as the Polaroid 600 cameras but is in a wider format rather than the more well known square. The Spectra is more advanced and complicated than the Sun 600 series, and generally produces a better quality result.
Polaroid introduced the Spectra system of cameras in 1986.
Fuji Instax film, and Polaroid Originals film for iType, SX-70, and 600 will not work with this camera. Also, old packs of vintage Polaroid Spectra or Spectra Soft Tone film will likely have a dead battery.
The Polaroid Now works best with i-Type film, but it can also be used with 600. Restock your supply and choose film in black and white, color, plus other special editions here.
Polaroid Originals has announced that it is discontinuing production of its wide-format Spectra film. The reason, CEO Oskar Smolokowski said in a statement on the companys blog today, is due to the degraded nature of existing wide-format cameras.
You should know which film type the camera uses No, they are not compatible with each other. Among the same brand, some films are interchangeable. For example, a Polaroid SX-70 can use both Polaroid 600 and 100 film, as long as the camera is modernized or modded.
The appropriate films for the Polaroid Spectra 2 are the Polaroid Originals Color Film for Image Spectra and the Polaroid Originals BW Film for Image Spectra.
The important thing to remember is that not all instant films are the same, so Polaroid film will not work with Instax cameras and even within the same camera brand, not all film is compatible.
SX-70 film and 600 film come in identical cartridges nowadays. You can shoot 600 cartridges in a SX-70 by putting a 2 Stop ND filter in front of the lens (which darkens your viewfinder image by 2 stops), or put a Pack-filter on top of the cartridge.
