The most common open tunings for slide guitar playing are open E, D, G and A. Allman and Trucks, widely considered to be two of the greatest slide players ever, have mostly preferred to play slide in open E tuning, which is spelled, low to high, E B E G# B E.
The most common open tunings for slide guitar playing are open E, D, G and A. Allman and Trucks, widely considered to be two of the greatest slide players ever, have mostly preferred to play slide in open E tuning, which is spelled, low to high, E B E G# B E.
The most common open tunings amongst slide guitarists are E, D and G. Technically though you can tune your guitar to form any major chord. And so although they are much less common, you can also tune your guitar to open A, B, C and F etc. You can also do the same with sharp and flat chords.
The most common slide guitar tuning: Open G For this reason, getting to the most popular tuning, open G, is pretty simple. To get to open G, you tune both E strings down a whole step so they become Ds. Tune your A string down a whole step so it becomes a D. Just like that, you are in open G tuning.
Open E Tuning Due to this versatility it is ideal for slide guitar and has been employed by many of the great slide guitarists such as Duane Allman, Derek Trucks, Joe Walsh and Ry Cooder.
In Slide-tone, a sliding platform (b) provides position feedback of the trends height (d) to the users finger. In Tilt-tone, a tilting platform (c) provides inclination feedback of the trends local tangent (e) to the users finger.
An important element of Raitts playing is her use of open tunings and capos (opens in new tab). She most often plays in open A tuning (low to high: E, A, E, A, C#, E), but she also uses open G, which is the same tuning scheme transposed down one whole step (low to high: D, G, D, G, B, D).
Action 3/16 above 12th fret E string. This is only a recommendation. It could be higher or lower depending on your skill and how hard you strike the strings. By having your guitar setup for slide, you will now be able to confidently practice your licks and become much more comfortable playing slide guitar.
5 Tricks to Sound Like an Expert Slide Guitar Player Change your target. We fretted-instrument folks are spoiled (as fretless bass players like to remind us) because we dont have to worry about intonation. Raise your action. Try open tunings. Work on your right-hand muting. Work on pinpoint control.
