Hi Im Carrie Anne, this is Crash Course Computer Science and today were going to talk about how computers store and represent numerical data. Which means weve got to talk about Math! But dont worry. Every single one of you already knows exactly what you need to know to follow along. So, last episode we talked about how transistors can be used to build logic gates, which can evaluate boolean statements. And in boolean algebra, there are only two, binary values: true and false. But if we only have two values, how in the world do we represent information beyond just these two values? Thats where the Math comes in. INTRO So, as we mentioned last episode, a single binary value can be used to represent a number. Instead of true and false, we can call these two states 1 and 0 which is actually incredibly useful. And if we want to represent larger things we just need to add more binary digits. This works exactly the same way as the decimal numbers that were all familiar with. With decim

A binary code represents text, computer processor instructions, or any other data using a two-symbol system. The two-symbol system used is often 0 and 1 from the binary number system. The binary code assigns a pattern of binary digits, also known as bits, to each character, instruction, etc.
Bitmap images are organised as a grid of coloured squares called pixels. Each different colour in the image is stored as a binary number.
Lets look at binary codes for all letters of the English alphabet to give you an idea of how to write functions in code: A: 01000001. B: 01000010. C: 01000011. D: 01000100. E: 01000101. F: 01000110. G: 01000111. H: 01001000.
How can an image be represented in binary? Bitmap images are made up of individual pixels. The colour of each pixel is represented as a binary number so the whole image is therefore stored as a series of binary numbers.
whole bytes (24 bits) are used to represent the colour of each pixel. This is split up into one byte for each of the primary colours of light, red, green and blue. This is because computer displays uses these primary colours of light to display all the different colours we see on the screen.

An image is made of many pixels, each of them with a particular color. Modern computers can show up to 16.7 millions of different colors. It is impossible to store each one of these colors personnally, they are instead represented as a combination of three primary colors: red, green and blue (RGB color model).
The resolution depth of a screen image is usually measured in pixels per inch (PPI). The resolution depth of a printed image is usually measured in dots per inch (DPI).
Digital images are made up of pixels . Each pixel in an image is made up of binary numbers. If we say that 1 is black (or on) and 0 is white (or off), then a simple black and white picture can be created using binary. To create the picture, a grid can be set out and the squares coloured (1 black and 0 white).
The ASCII code takes each character on the keyboard and assigns it a binary number. For example: the letter a has the binary number 0110 0001 (this is the denary number 97) the letter b has the binary number 0110 0010 (this is the denary number 98)
